Dina Parise Racing gearing up for Fleet Week NYC!

Honoring our Military. This is a time-honored tradition with the Dina Parise Racing team. One of the events that top’s this teams list is Fleet Week NYC!

Fleet Week is a U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Coast Guard tradition in which active military ships recently deployed in overseas operations dock in cities (such as New York) for one week. Once the ships dock, the crews can visit its tourist attractions and enjoy various activities.

Dina Parise and her husband Andrew are originally from New York, but now reside in Georgia. “We are happy to make the (800-mile) trip for this event.” Said Dina Parise “Getting to thank our Military Members in person is what it’s all about.”

With the assistance of their marketing partners as well as other sources, the DPR team is proud to have obtained various items to fill 200 ‘Gift Bags’ to pass on to our Military Members. Just a small token of appreciation for the sacrifice they make. “Everyone we reached out to was more than happy to donate items.” Said Parise. “This is something we would like to continue in the future, and expand.”

DPR will be appearing on Pier 86 at the Intrepid Museum, from May 27th – 29th (10am-6pm all days). Pier 86 is filled with interactive displays, hands-on learning opportunities, performances and more! DPR’s display will also be interactive. The team will have a ‘Christmas Tree’ (drag racing timing system) for attendees to try their hand at for ‘Reaction Time’, just like the racers use! Admission to the Pier 86 activities are free, and General Admission will be charged to enjoy the museum. DPR suggests you take advantage of the museum! For more event information visit: http://dinapariseracing.com/event/dpr-appearing-at-fleet-week-nyc/

The team hopes to see you all out there enjoying the festivities, taking advantage of the interactive displays and above all taking the time to say, ‘Thank You’ to those serving in the military.

Items provided by the following: NGK, CRC, Lucas Oil, NMCA (Pro Media), Pro Things, Darlington Dragway, Wiseco and John Wayne Cancer Foundation.Christmas (timing) Tree provided by: Motorsports Engine. The team would like to thank: Quarter Mile Foundation for their assistance.

Choosing Politics over Promotion, makes Racing a Drag

You cannot escape it. Talk of politics is all around us at what seems to be every moment of the day. I personally am not a fan of talking politics, but in this instance, I will make an exception.

Drag racing is a tough sport in many ways. Of course, I say this from experience. Our sport is not only difficult from a performance aspect, but from a financial aspect as well. As a team owner (and driver) I can attest to the difficulty of fielding ‘Stella’ our Cadillac Pro Mod for one race let alone an entire season. The unfortunate truth is that we (the independent teams) have more of an uphill battle when it comes to funding and sponsorship. That is not a complaint by any means, but it is the truth. We as teams (and drivers) do not need anyone, let alone a sanctioning body, hindering the use of a sponsor logo, especially when it relates to the very sport we all work so hard to participate in and promote. This week, Larry Dixon returned to the seat at the Gator Nationals in his own car (as opposed to driving for a funded team). He stated he is running Gainesville and hoping to possibly run another event. Something we at Dina Parise Racing can understand and relate to.

NHRA in its infinite wisdom placed a ‘cease and desist’ (of sorts) on Dixon running a sponsor’s logo due to ‘conflict of interest’ (*See below). They reference the rule that states: right to refuse to display any sponsor decal on a racecar or rig it deems as detrimental to the organization. Detrimental? In this instance, I would say in this case, NHRA may have a flair for drama and at the same time, has given IHRA and the World Series of Drag Racing more publicity than they could have ever asked for.

Dixon’s NHRA Mello Yello NHRA Drag Racing Series Gator Nationals event sponsorship is on behalf of The World Series of Drag Racing, an event hosted by Cordova International Raceway. Did I mention Cordova is owned by IHRA, another sanctioning body you may have heard of? I, like anyone else, understands the competitive nature (and egos) between the two sanctioning bodies. The sponsorship was to promote a ‘match race’ during this World Series of Drag Racing event. The event itself is not in conflict with the NHRA schedule, nor was the IHRA logo included on the sponsor decal. Did they ‘ride the line’ with this one? Maybe. But the bottom line was that it was a specific event being promoted, and that was the means for this multi-time champion to get back in the NHRA show. This move puts a bad taste in the racers and race fans mouths.

While understanding, we are dealing with two different sanctioning bodies, we must also understand another important issue here. There is a lack of ‘full fields’ not just in the nitro ranks of NHRA, but throughout the sport. Gone are the days of 30 plus cars fighting for sixteen spots. This may be a bit of a grey area here, but in the end, we need to promote our sport and its drivers.

Let’s talk scheduling. I do know a bit about this, due to my former profession as a professional skater for the Ice Capades. We too had competitors, therefore, our shows were booked in at venues accordingly. Did they want to make their competitor happy? No, but they did want to make the fans happy, and they are the ones purchasing the tickets (and merchandise). As in my former show world and in racing, I believe the answer is simple. Sanctioning bodies, as well as large racing organizations, need to work together for the betterment of the sport. Not looking for a Kumbaya moment here, just a resolution. Each year, there needs to be a formal conference to address the complexities of our sport. First and foremost, they need to address scheduling. To (at least attempt) not schedule major events on top of one another benefits everyone. This is not foolproof, but addressing scheduling will make a difference. Racers can possibly run more events, and fans have more options of events to attend. Addressing rule and class structures so teams can have the option to run more events. This especially applies in Pro Mod. The rules and structure of the class varies to where many teams cannot compete or even hope to be competitive. It is the racers as well as the fans that deserve that respect. Without the racer, (and the race fan) what do you have?

Organizations need to take stock in the teams. They need to learn how to better promote the teams and events as well as themselves, and worry less about the politics. When promoting teams, it is imperative to promote all that participate, not just the heavy hitters. Keep fans excited and connected. In turn, ROI (return on investment) will be created for the sponsors, and racers will have the means to continue racing. Need to know a thing or two about promotion? Contact me (http://dinapariseracing.com/contact/ ) and let me show you the way. Yes, that is an example of shameless self-promotion. See how I did that?

Now, more than ever, sponsors are hard to come by. No sponsors, no racers; therefore, no fans and no show. Although the organizations themselves are separate entities, the goal is still the same. Working together will benefit everyone. It is the most efficient way to have the fields and stands full.

Dina Parise Racing NMCA All American Nationals Recap

‘The heat is on!’ That was certainly the term for the NMCA All American Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway this past weekend. With temperatures well into the 90 degree range and a track temperature of 140 degrees, you could fry Meatballs on the starting line! Temperature aside, the racing and track conditions were phenomenal!

This was the first of the three race deal for Dina Parise Racing and Aerospace Components. The team did not only represent Aerospace on the track, they were a fixture on the manufacturer’s midway as well. “What an exciting way to spend a race weekend!” Said Dina Parise “We were honored that Aerospace and NMCA wanted DPR as representatives on the midway. We had a blast with the fans! We are looking forward to doing it again in Joliet and Norwalk.”

For DPR this 2016 season has been a bit of a struggle, yet it seems things are finally beginning to turn a corner. “Although we were certainly not the fastest this weekend,” Said Andrew Parise “We were consistent. Stella went A to B on all but one pass and she was straight as an arrow. Seems we have found the issues and we can improve from here. I’m happy with that. Now my wife will get off my case.” He laughs.

The team qualified #10 in a 16 car field. In 1st Round Parise ran Richard Holt. Parise ran a 4.120 to Holt’s 4.108 but won the round due to Holt fouling out. Parise then took on Randy Adler in round 2. Adler won the round with a 4.027 over Parise’s 4.157. “All in all, I’m happy with our performance” Said (Andrew) Parise “We went down in the heat. We didn’t break anything. Hallelujah, as I said, the wife is off my case. Somewhat!”

“I cannot thank my team enough!” Said (Dina) Parise “My husband Andrew and Butch worked their tails off this weekend. They always do. Work hard and laugh harder. It’s what keeps us sane, successful and from killing each other!” She laughs.

A bit of a fun side note. Parise is meeting some of her fellow drivers for the first time here at NMCA. Case in point, Richard Holt who hails from Texas. Prior to running 1st round Parise and Holt had a conversation in the staging lanes, to which Holt explained he has given her a nickname. Holt was asked by other drivers who he was running in the 1st round. His answer? “Oh, I have ‘Tiny Dancer’!”. He proceeded to explain this to Parise and informed her this was now how he would (affectionately) refer to her. Seemingly it is sticking, the name was heard quite a bit throughout the pits (and on social Media) for the remainder of the weekend!

The team wants to thank and recognize the NMCA organization for the spot on track prep they maintained throughout the weekend. They also would like to recognize Bangshift.com for the live feed coverage of the race. A top notch job done by all.

The next race on the DPR schedule is the NMCA Super Bowl at Route 66 Raceway, July 28-31. Once again Bangshift.com will be airing their live feed all weekend long. Don’t forget DPR also has a live pit cam as well, featuring a ‘birds eye view’ of the pit and all that goes on! You can find the pit cam on the team’s website http://dinapariseracing.com/ throughout the race weekend.

The DPR team continues to push the envelope in every way. From performance to detail this team acknowledges and does it all. Stella sparkles and looks great because of the products provided by Eastwood and CRC Auto (including the new Smart Washer). She runs well and safely with products from as NGK, Lucas Oil, Speedwire Systems, Hussey Performance, Hoosier and Motorsports Unlimited. Dina Parise Racing Welcomes Aerospace Components

They say everything happens for a reason. In the Dina Parise Racing camp, they have become believers in this statement. This team has learned that some days may be tougher than others, but they are just preparation for things to come.

And come they do. Recently DPR reached a sponsorship agreement with the Florida-based company, which will see Parise and her team competing in the remaining NMCA events; racing in the highly competitive VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod class.

“When Kim (Kussy) and I first met” Said Dina Parise “We hit it off. Two hard working women in this amazing industry both loving every minute of it. What’s not to like, right?”

The DPR team has a rich history in working with our Nation’s veteran population and military members in general. Some events many may have known about but there were quite a few that just never surfaced. It was for the veterans, not for the team. “I have always said it’s not about getting to the stripe first” Said Parise “But the journey you take to get there”. Aerospace Components started out doing Government contract jobs, and are a Mil certified shop. The company has been hiring veterans for the past 20 years.

Aerospace Components is quite supportive in the Drag Racing industry. They pay contingency on 5 products (all classes, all series with Promedia. For the last 5 years ): Brakes, ( Must have Front and Rear) Vacuum Pump,Water Pump, Fuel Pump and Shifter. They also support the racers with awesome programs like the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle for all events in all series NMCA, NMCA West and NMRA with Promedia. That is just part of what they do!

Much like DPR, Aerospace Components has a huge presence and following on social media and they share the success of the racers and their racing career. Don’t miss the innovative with new videos of “Kimmy’s Garage”! Learn how it’s made or how to install their products. They believe in educating and engaging customers and future customers about their products.

Both DPR and Aerospace Components are looking forward to this new partnership, and showing you the great products they have to offer all MADE IN THE USA!

Passion VS Conscience a delicate balance

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart. ~Marcus Aurelius

There are many outside (and even inside) the tight knit circle of Drag Racing that do not understand how we persist regardless of circumstances surrounding us. It seems to be a struggle of conscience verses passion. Many of us wondering where do we draw the line? When do we say ‘the show must go on’ and when do we pull the plug?

Passion is the strongest of emotions, yet so is grief. How do we balance the two yet be true to the ones we care for? It’s a delicate balance. Oddly in racing, it seems that question answers itself. Passion consoles the grieving party. Passion in turn gives strength and becomes a form of solace. This seems true for most athletes. Therefore, it is an unspoken understanding that when tragedy strikes within the ranks the competition will continue. It continues because that passion is what fuels every competitor and inevitably keeps that competitive flame burning. Passion binds us, fate brings us together and keeps us forever bound to one another.

Having been an athlete all my life, I understand this theory all too well. Sudden death or injury can make anyone question continuing in that moment. Again, as I have learned it is the passion that we draw upon for strength. Utilizing that passion for strength is what eases the conscience in the long run merely for the fact that it solidifies the tie that binds us. Call it cliché, but it is the truth.

So, for those standing in judgment of others continuing to follow their dreams in the face of adversity I ask you this simple question: ‘What did YOU do today?’ Until your answer consists of struggling to make your way, fighting tooth and nail to achieve your goals; you may want to keep that pie hole shut. There are too many that condemn the actions of others without having any real knowledge of those they are condemning or what it is they do. I am making a blanket statement here. But I have said it before, until you have been there, done that or stood in THAT person’s shoes you have no right to judge.

Frankly it does not matter your passion , be it; Drag Racing ( I will admit we prevail on the ‘cool scale’), Figure Skating (yes also high on that ‘cool scale’ as well ), a ball sports, music , art, whatever . In the end it all comes down to the conscience verses passion. Let your passion continue to keep your dream alive. Your conscience will keep itself in check and you will know at what moment something may be disrespectful or off. Every case is different yet the passion remains the same.

Get out there. Follow your dreams, or sit on the couch and eat Cheetos. The choice is yours.

See you at the Track!

Dina Parise Racing- It’s ‘Down to the Wire’

‘Down to the wire’- used to denote a situation whose outcome is not decided until the very last minute. Well, that is certainly the scenario Dina Parise is facing right now when it comes to the fight for the IHRA Crower Pro Mod Championship. Dina is known for being blatantly honest (usually with a side of humor) and is surely willing to admit that this scenario should be a whole lot different right now, and at this point she will only blame herself for that. They say there is no ‘I’ in team but there certainly is an ‘I’ in driver.

The fact is that the hardest working people on a drag racing team are the crew. They are up and at it early to set up and begin performing maintenance. Before you know it, you are rolling into the round by round action as the day progresses. All the while, never guaranteed a break and they surely will never consume a meal without grease as a condiment. When that racecar hits the strip and the performance is stellar, who gets the kudos? The driver. When the racecar hits the strip and the performance is not up to par, who gets the blame? The crew. Of course there are variables here but you get the picture.

When putting the pieces of a successful racing operation together at times it seems the stars need to align. But in reality you need hard work, dedication and most of all good chemistry. The Dina Parise Racing team has all of those components. The importance of these components will especially come into play when a team has few members, such as DPR. Andrew Parise is the backbone of the DPR team taking care of everything from transporting , set up, prepping Stella (the Cadillac Pro Mod) ,turning wrenches at events (along with crew member Butch Branzelle) and most importantly taking care of the ‘up-keep’ (of everything) including Stella’s maintenance program. “At times I can be a one man band.” States Andrew Parise. “Back in the shop, I handle the maintenance myself. I am ok with that. We do what we have to, to keep going. I like to be hands on anyway. I prefer to see and feel what is happening with Stella, this way I know things are done. I’m not really a fan of trusting someone else to hold my wife’s safety in their hands.”

“As many of you know, Quain Stott recently joined forces with DPR.” Stated Dina Parise. “He has certainly been a welcomed addition to the team. His tuning has been spot on and he is getting Stella right where we need her to be. The issues of late have been with me as a driver. I have to take responsibility for that. I’m not a runner. I face issues head on. We have certainly made changes over the season, some due to the fact I have battled with comfortability in this car. But now it’s time for this Buttercup to suck it up and do her job. My team is busting their asses, I owe it to them to perform.”

Parise is not a rookie when it comes to the Pro Mod ranks. She understands what it takes to wheel these cars .She has a great passion for driving and for the sport of drag racing in general. Her competitive fire will not let these issues get the best of her. In fact, if you know her you know that she lets nothing stand in her way. “I prefer to take negatives of any sort and change them to positives.” States Dina. “Life is too short to let any negativity rent space in your brain. I would rather let it fuel me. I’m not one for wasted energy!” She smiles.

One race remains in the series. Parise has a 31 point lead over Bill Lutz. The run for IHRA Crower Pro Mod champion will surely come ‘down to the wire.’ It should be a spectacular finish. The finals will be held at Memphis International Raceway on October 9th and 10th. Cannot attend the race? Watch it LIVE here: http://www.ihra.com/livefeed/nitrojam presented by http://motormaniatv.com/ . It’s almost as good as being there!

Dina Parise in MOR-TV Drive Like a Pro PSA

In an effort to encourage everyone to drive safely, I was honored to be asked to be part of the MOR- TV Tampa Drive Like a Pro PSA.

‪Safety is first and foremost when it comes to racing and it is very important to me. Of course we know what we do is dangerous and we are constantly making changes to improve safety. But in the scheme of things I believe being racers and constantly facing inherent danger gives us better perspective regarding what can happen in day to day circumstance as well.

Let me give you an example. I myself have ‘wadded up’ (as we say) a race car. When you can crash at speeds exceeding 100-200MPH and get out of your vehicle and make lunch….. it’s a good day. The difference being our RACE cars are made to withstand that type of blunt force. A street car, not so much. Let us not forget that in a street car we all are not wearing a 5-7 point harness (the equivalent of an octopus wrapping his arms around you using those suction cups to keep you stuck in that seat) along with a fire suit, neck protection and gloves.

So many of these rules (mentioned in the PSA shown below) are common sense and apply to all of us. If you have teen drivers PLEASE talk to them . Not at them… to them. It’s important. Did you know that the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the ‘100 deadliest crash days’ for teens in autos? Yes. Talk to them. Educate them.

I will leave you with this :

  1. Put on your seatbelts- Yes, they may wrinkle your shirt a bit, but just think of the alternative if you crash not wearing one. Besides, blood stains and glass chards are tough to get out.
  2. Turn off you phone- An LOL, YEA or a SMH can mean the difference between LIVE or DEAD.
  3. Put down your sammich . Looking down at that drip of mustard on your tie or blouse can cost you.

Lastly…..Just pay attention to the road and your surroundings.

We want to see you at the next race!

Here is the PSA…. Please do not hesitate to share!

To race or to crew and everything in between!

Two races down and more to go. We started out in PA, went to VA and picked up Butch B. our crew Dina Parise Racing member, then drove to Atlanta to pick up Dave J (another DPR Crew member). We then we headed to South Georgia Motorsports Park to get some testing in. Mother Nature had continued with her wrath of crappy weather and ee got rained out. We decided to leave and head straight to Bradenton Motorsports Park (the first IHRA ,Crower Pro mod event).

But as with this DPR team, there is NEVER a dull moment. So, on the way to Bradenton, I figured let’s get the rig washed and shiny for the race. I spent 130 bucks (much to the boss’ dismay) at the Blue Beacon Truck wash. They did a great job. We looked good, for a whole 10 minutes! Then, looking up the road, I see headlights (in mid-afternoon). Next thing you know, it down pours for 10 minutes straight! Seemed we were following the cloud too! I wasn’t very happy to say the least.

Bradenton (IHRA), was not a good debut for Stella. We loaded everything in the trailer including the kitchen sink. Ultimately, a $22 part broke and caused us to bow down. We had the part over-nighted and stayed to test on Tuesday. Thank fully that went well. So, we loaded up and were off to Palm Beach International Raceway.

We enjoyed some much needed R&R while we were in Palm Beach. It was nice to get away and just relax. But we know better than to get used to it! The R&R ended quickly.

Stella (the Cadillac ) seems to be standing up to her Italian name! She can be a real Biotch. After much hard work and A LOT of sweat, we finally got the car down the track. Unfortunately, Stella was anything but Stellar. Certainly not the numbers we wanted, but we will take it. She is coming around and we know she can’t stay biotchy forever. In the end, we didn’t want to leave Florida. We decided to stay an extra day and enjoy the weather.

It is great to be back competing with IHRA, where Pro Mod began. From the racers to the safety crew to the fans it is an amazing place to race! We got to hang out with our friends as well as making some new ones. We even played some football. It was like old times again. Right now the Pro Mod car count is down, but it will certainly improve as time goes on. As I said, IHRA is a great place to race.Palm Beach 4

We went back to PA to regroup. Since we can never seem to stay put for too long,we decided to go out and test at Virginia Motorsports Park. We tested with the assistance of with none other than Quain Stott. Truthfully, Stella must like Southerners ! She ran great! She 60ft’d in thr .980’s all day. Needless to say we ran a 3.99 to the 1/8 right off the trailer on a green track (and Dina lifted a bit early). We backed it up with a bunch of 4.0’s. It was a great day of testing. I was good to see Stella and Dina going down the track and at a good pace!

I’m finding it hard to go from being a Driver to being a full time crew member. I do miss the seat and hauling butt down the track. But this is the year we need to get the boss in the winners circle. I can’t give too much away but we will be making some changes real soon. I don’t like being stagnant with our program. We will keep you posted on the changes.

Changing gears: The other day I was listening to NASCAR on SiriusXM radio as I was driving. Yes I said the “N” word. I was listening as a couple of fans called in and started to complain about the format, the tracks, and more. It was very sad to hear. Taking the time to answer was Jeff Gordon. He then said to the fans; with all this complaining and unhappiness maybe NASCAR should just shut down all together and cancel races. After listening to more, it made me think about our sport of Drag Racing. The IHRA, NHRA, PDRA and other series’. Well guess what? We are really in the same boat as NASCAR. I came to the upsetting realization: It seems there is a tendency to pick apart the different (drag racing) series rather than promoting and supporting them individually. I can say, I have been guilty of this as well. The various series’ compliment the teams (and their Marketing Partners) that run them. If we continue bashing any series, we run the risk of less companies wanting to invest or be involved. The result? Even more teams will be forced to sit out. As most know, drag racing costs money, lots of money. The faster you go the more funds you need. So, regardless of what series anyone is racing (or a fan of) please help promote it even if you don’t like it.

We have a great race schedule for the rest of 2015. I wish we could hit the lotto so we can race every weekend, but ’til that happens we will have to keep working. Well one of us has to work….
