Dina Parise Racing headed to the Nassau County Cruise to the Show!

What’s that song? Ah, yes ‘See you in September!’ Well, September is finally here and you know what that means? It’s time again for the Nassau County Cruise to the Show! The Dina Parise Racing team is looking forward to again appearing at this unbelievable event on September 28th! But, this year will be a bit different…..

Many of you are familiar with DPR and their Pro Mods. Well, this year you will no longer be seeing the ‘his and hers’ Corvettes you may be accustomed to. Reason being is that DPR has now taken ‘High Performance Luxury’ to the next level! I bet you are scratching you head right now saying, “What in the world does that mean?” Keep reading.

DPR is proud to present, ‘Stella’. The brand new 3,000HP Cadillac CTS-V built by Matheis Race Cars Inc. (Paint by Bruce Mullins). Did your eyes deceive you? A 3,000 HP Cadillac? Can it be? Yes, it can be and it is! Stella is stunning!

This, ladies and gentleman IS a bonafide race car. She has a Supercharged 526 HEMI motor and she means business ( a perfect match with her driver). But, as tough as she is screaming down the drag strip when she comes to a stop she is quite demure. That is partly because of the built in Lipstick holder on the shifter tower. “Not only does every New York girl need a beautiful 3,000 HP Cadillac, but she has to be sure she has her lipstick on when she steps out of it.” Said Dina Parise “ I actually posed putting a Lipstick holder ( in the car) to Rob (Matheis) as a joke, but I guess he really believes in giving the customer what they want!” She laughs.

The DPR team will be on hand to showing both the 53 Corvette Pro Mod that Andrew drives, as well as the New Cadillac CTS-V that Dina drives. Stop by, see the cars, take a pic and get an autograph! Don’t forget that Bella the PR Pug always makes an appearance as well in her Jr Dragster stroller! Also on hand that day will be crew member Charlie Saccoccio.

Head out to Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY Sunday September 28th from 10am-5pm and join the fun! And do not forget your sunglasses because Stella is so bright, you gotta wear shades!

Dina Parise; Putting the Human Back in the Being

In light of recent ‘events’ I have decided to pen what I am about to…. But, of course I will not react the way you may think. If you have been following me, you know I think out of the box and I don’t hold back. So put your DJ Safety Belts on tight and your Bell Helmet on (yes, shameless plugs)… this will be a wild ride!

You know that I do not only write about my Dina Parise Racing team. Sometimes, I feel the need to address other subjects and issues. This would be one of those moments.* Before I begin, let me say that our thoughts are with all involved and our sincerest condolences go out to the Ward family.*

Unless you have been living under a rock, I am sure you are aware of the incident at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park on August 9th that involved Tony Stewart and resulted in the death of Kevin Ward Jr. As in any situation there are variables just as in what happened here. I cannot give you any particulars, you know why? Because I (just like many of those commenting) was not there. I could very well give you an ‘opinion’ just as every ‘Tom, Dick and Harriet’ did regarding what happened, but you know what, I will not. You know why? Because I actually cannot make a clear opinion on what happened because……..Again I (like most) was not there. I did not witness what happened first hand.

Millions of now ‘self-proclaimed’ experts have viewed an amateur video shot at night from a distance and come to their own conclusions. I get having an opinion, but in this day of Social Media and ‘Keyboard Cowboys’ it goes far beyond that. Being behind a computer screen really does bring out the ‘beer muscles’. This has not only become a witch hunt of sorts, but on the flip side the deceased driver has been disrespected as well. Apparently the viewing public now deems the CSI show as educational and they have all become graduates! Forgive me, but even as a driver, I do not feel I can make a determination as to what went on during that incident. The only determination that can be made is that a driver exited his car on a ‘hot’ track, and a tragedy ensued.

We cannot as a society be judge, jury and executioner via our computer terminals. Many on Social Media (as well as some news outlets) have become the ‘Judge Judy’s’ of cyberspace and beyond. Not just regarding this issue, either. Computers have taken the ‘ human’ out of the ‘beings’. The lack of human interaction is creating a less sympathetic and compassionate society. At times, I find myself having to just shut down my computer when a big news story hits. My shutdown is due to people no longer finding it in their vocabulary (or hearts) to speak/write with any compassion or manners and obviously feeling no guilt in doing so. Look, I am going to be very frank here. We all know the saying…. Opinions are like Buttholes, everyone has them…. Hence, they don’t necessarily need to be seen, right? Are you getting my point?

In the end (ah, no pun intended) we can only hope that this tragedy will bring about changes that will keep drivers (of all motorsports) safe in the future. In the motorsports community especially, I believe that we need not have knee jerk reactions, but some change is needed. From here on out let’s be pro-active rather than re-active to avoid future tragedies. I witness ‘procedures’ within my own sport of Drag Racing that I deem to be dangerous. For example; crewmembers standing next to a 2,600LB.(give or take) door car, and feeling the need to assist the vehicle during the burnout process. By that I refer to crewmembers holding and pushing the rear of the car on either side. I for one will not allow my crewmembers to do that. With tires spinning at that velocity, what if a pant leg was to get caught, a mechanical malfunction, a blown tire? Anything can happen in our sport at any time. And, it has. My belief is that this is something those in our industry should no longer be doing in the name of safety, but that’s just me.

We are looking forward to the long awaited debut of the DPR Cadillac CTSV Pro Mod. She is just about completed so stay tuned for that! Thank you to Paint by Bruce Mullins for making her look so good! *Here is a Sneak Peek!

Dina Parise Racing Takes High Performance Luxury to the Next Level!

High Performance Luxury: High performance luxury can be defined as space, comfort and presence but yet, is ultimately defined by the ‘feel’ of the overall vehicle. Emotion begins to distinguish the difference between a ‘luxury’ and a ‘mainstream’ car. Well, things just became emotional!

In the spirit of taking high performance luxury to the next level, the Dina Parise Racing team would like to present and welcome ‘Stella’, the NEW Cadillac CTS-V built by none other than Matheis Race Cars Inc.

“This build has certainly taken a bit longer than we had planned.” Stated Dina Parise. “This was not the fault of anyone, we just ran into a few snags along the way. And besides, perfection takes time, right? Stella is perfect! We gave her that name after my Nanny Stella. She was a tough, independent, a fiery (in every sense of the word) Red-Headed Italian! It just works!” She laughs.

Take the term ‘luxury’ out of it (for a moment) and what are you left with? Frankly, you are left with a bad ass, classy looking Pro Mod. No other way to define Stella than that. In putting the pieces of the Pro Mod puzzle together, her naming became the final piece. From the Cadillac CTS-V Body selection to the Chassis assembly through to the safety equipment as well as the paint and finishing touches, this car has been nothing short of a labor of love covered in a veil of secrecy for all involved.

Throughout the process DPR chose to keep Stella under wraps. In the initial stages, they showed a few build photos and that turned to ‘sneak peek’ photos soon thereafter. “Keeping her a bit of a mystery was fun for us and the fans!” stated Dina. “It was a great way to pass the time as well as recognize our Marketing Partners during the process. We made the absolute best of the situation. That’s what we are best at!”

Keeping Stella under wraps was especially tough for Rob Matheis of Matheis Race Cars Inc. “I have said before that I have been a fan of the Parise’s for a long time.” Stated Rob Matheis “So, when the opportunity arose to build the Cadillac for Dina we were all in. The fact that this car looks so close to the actual CTS-V will keep the fans wanting more. Admittedly keeping this build a secret was not easy. But in the end we are extremely proud of the product we have built for them.” Said Rob .

During the process of the build, DPR has gained the support of a few new Marketing Partners. “We are very thankful for the Partners we currently have as well as for the additional ones that have hoped on board with DPR!” Stated Dina.“ All of our Partners have assisted to make this happen in one way or another. We are very appreciative of that and are proud to represent all of them.” Said Dina

In recent months the DPR team released information regarding new Partner relationships. Due to the secrecy of the Cadillac project, some of their contributions (with their blessing) had been kept secret as well. Thankfully, the CTS-V is outta the bag and DPR can share the contributions made! Pay close attention, because you will definitely want to patronize these businesses once you see their work! (You can find a full list of Marketing Partners below). IMG_5767

As stated the car was built by Matheis Race Cars inc. What would a Supercharged Pro Mod be without a spectacular pair of Headers fabricated by Stainless Works. DPR is proud to be enlisted in the SW Army! A powerful race car such as this needs the best safety equipment around, so DPR of course went to DJ Safety! From Fire suit to boots and belts to chutes, DJ Safety has provided DPR with the best looking most effective safety equipment on the market today. Do not forget Bell Racing for the best melon protection around! Safety and comfort makes for a great race day!

The final stage leading to the reveal of course was making the Cadillac look as perfect as she should. That was left to Paint by Bruce Mullins with materials provided by USA Auto Supply. “Anyone who knows me knows I have a crazy attention to detail.” Stated Dina “Bruce was a partner in my insanity. From the Headlights and the grill to the personalized license plate as well as the emblems, Bruce nailed it! Stella is a stunner!” Said Dina

Not only was the paint on Cadillac executed perfectly, but Andrew Parise and Bruce Mullins had a surprise in store for Dina as well. That surprise came in the form of a handwritten note (inside the driver’s door) from none other than IHRA Funny Car champion Bunny Burkett. ‘Set your goals high, don’t settle for less- Do it one run at a time. Be safe and win…..Your friend, Bunny Burkett.’ How cool is that?

So, Stella is out for the world to see. The DPR team looks forward to getting her down the track in competition shortly! Always remember safety first ‘cause Stella’s so bright…. You’ll hafta wear shades!

Athlete’s Voices: Dina Parise Episode 11, You’ve Come a Long Way Ladies!

Athlete’s Voices is posted monthly on Double G Sports! Check them all here!

http://doublegsports.com/category/other/athletes-voices/dina-parise/

If you have been paying attention to earlier blogs, you have been reading the term ‘Door Slammer’. A Pro Mod is referred to as a Door Slammer because it is a powerful racecar with doors and the driver sits in the driver’s seat as in a traditional street car. They are replicas of traditional production bodies, for example my 3,000HP Dina Parise Racing Cadillac CTSV (to debut soon). I want you all to understand our sport of Pro Mod Drag Racing and get to enjoy it the way it is meant to be enjoyed! Relatable enough to your everyday car yet powerful enough to lift you (the spectator) out of your seat!

The very early days of NASCAR (1949) had names such as Louise Smith and Ethel Mobley. In 1965, Shirley Muldowney was the first woman licensed by NHRA to drive a gasoline-burning Gas dragster, capable of speeds over 150 MPH in the Quarter mile. In 1977 Janet Guthrie was the first woman to earn a starting spot in the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500(where she was Top Rookie). So, you see what I am getting at. Ladies have been making their mark in the Motorsports industry for decades.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with Carolyn Melendy. She is considered the ‘first lady’ of Pro Mod. (Door Slammers, if you will). Her entrance into the Pro Mod world was in the 90’s. At the time, yes it was Male dominated. She stated that no one wanted to line up next to her to race. No one. The issue to them was, they felt she did not have the ‘skill’ to drive a Pro Mod. Finally, Bill Kuhlmann (a pioneer in the Pro Mod movement) decided to line up next to her thinking he would have her by many car lengths. The conclusion was he was sadly mistaken. Although Carolyn did not win the race, she was right with him all the way! It was there that she began to legitimize herself in the Pro Mod world and opened the door for women like me. I’m thankful for that. And on a side note, I would like to mention Annette Summer and Carol Long. Two ladies in Pro Mod that I also feel may not get the recognition they deserve. Or even Bunny Burkett (IHRA Funny Car Driver and World Champion) for that matter. Ladies much like me that work hard at their ‘craft’ without the accolades. True racers. And at the heart of it, that is what we are; racers, drivers competitors.

Being a ‘woman in motorsports’ is a bit of a phenomenon. I don’t mean that the way you think I do either. We ladies tend to stick together. We are uniquely supportive of each other, yet we are as competitive as they come. Our concentration levels are second to none. We celebrate the fact that we are women because that is what women do. Here is where the phenomenon ends (in my eyes anyway). When it comes to racing, the actual sport and art of racing we are drivers. That’s it. The cars, the track, the timers and the finish line do not know we are women nor that the competitors may be men. We are all drivers. Amazingly, every once in a blue moon I will run into the quintessential Neanderthal with scabs on his knuckles from apparently not having completed the evolutionary process. He is the guy that thinks women should be seen (preferably scantily clad) and not heard. He is also the guy that thinks we as women should be in the kitchen making a sandwich rather than doing what we do. As I said the occurrence although rare does happen. I personally love dealing with ‘this’ type and I must admit, being from New York tends to give me the ‘upper hand’ as far as comebacks! In this day and age, unless you are living under a rock, it’s time to realize; a driver is a driver and again, the car has no idea if we are male or female.

Now, let’s get back to the phenomenon theory and celebrating the fact that we are women. I am very proud of the fact that in my life I had the honor to skate for one of the most prestigious ice shows to tour North America for over 50 years ; The Ice Capades. Being a ‘Showgirl’ is an image that has been associated with me for as long as I can remember. My Dina Parise Racing fans, friends and fellow racers have been making the association for many years as well. Therefore, I would like to present to you the NEW Dina Parise Racing logo, where style and beauty meets competitiveness and power! I hope it lets all the ladies out there know, they can be whatever they want to be! Don’t dream it, be it! I have a saying, “Remember, you only get one ticket in this life, I’m using mine until it expires!”

In my next blog, I will be writing about the long awaited debut of the Cadillac CTSV Pro Mod as well as our outing to the Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival! There we will meet up with (one of) our Partners Chef Eddie G (and Chef Jr) of Coast 2 Coast Cuisine! Anyone who knows me, knows I can’t say no to good food and wine! So, stay tuned for more fun stuff from DPR!

Dina Parise~DPR

I can’t take the heat, get me out of the car!

Woofin’ at ya my good people! It has been a dogs age since Mom has let me at the Lap Top! Good thing the Dina Parise Racing Cadillac CTSV Pro Mod is almost ready to debut….. she’s making me and Daddy crazy! I like my ‘dog’ space, and she’s in it wayyyy to much! They say dogs get under your feet? I don’t know, I think humans are just looking for a way to trip themselves.

Recently, my Mom and Dad took me on a very long trip. I don’t care, I love to travel! Then I got to stay in some really nice hotels! I love hotels! When I walk in the lobby, they treat me like the Super Star that I am! Lots of petting and chatting…. Well, they chat, I just enjoy the attention!

I did get to sit in mom’s new Cadillac CTSV. It’s nice and comfy! But, I’m not sure where Mom’s gonna sit! You know, sometimes I do need a break from my NHRA Jr.Dragster stroller! I like a bit more….horse power!

I know you may have read about me going to see Dr.Coren at West Hills Animal Hospital & 24hr Emergency Veterinary Center. Well, really, sometimes I like to make Mom take me there because they treat me so nice! I have lots of friends there. But this time I was not feeling so great. So, the Doc took a blood test (I do not like those…Woof!) and Mom waited by the phone for the results. Thing is, you can’t keep this old girl down! That’s just what the Doc said too! He told my Mom that I’m lookin’ good for 84 1/2 years old! Mom gives me treats twice a day. I let her think I don’t know there are meds inside them. She thinks she’s smarter than me, but really I rule the whole house! I have them wrapped around my furry little paw….just where I want them.

I am ready to hit the Drag Strip to see my peeps! It’s time! I have been tweeting and working my paws to the bone! Being the DPR, PR Pug is a hard job …. Being this cute is tough. But, hey someone’s gotta do it right?

Let me be real Woofin’ serious for a moment. I know you humans love spending time with us fur babies (and real kids too!). We are too cute to resist. But baby, it’s HOT outside! Would you wear a winter coat in this weather (like I do)? Would you wear a winter coat and sit in a car with no air-conditioning or stay out in the yard for hours on end ? No,  I didn’t think so. So, if the thought of that makes you break out into a sweat and hyperventilate, think what it does to us furry ones! The car is NO PLACE for us to be fur kids locked into especially on a hot summer day. We know you think you are doing the right thing by taking us along, but really we would rather be in the air-conditioned house. We wanna play with our toys and drink water when we feel like it. And the best part….. is when we greet you at the door when you come home! Don’t you love that ? It’s what we do best ( well, I snore really good… but that’s another story!). So say NO to leaving fur babies in the car! This message is brought to you by Bella the DPR, PR Pug! Feel free to pass this message along! My work is done here, now I will hit the pool !

Don’t forget you can find me on Twitter ! https://twitter.com/ProModBella

Can’t wait to see you all soon! Woof at ya later!

Bella Booda

Athlete’s Voices: Dina Parise Episode 10, You Gotta Have Faith!

Athlete’s Voices is posted monthly on Double G Sports! Check them all here!

http://doublegsports.com/category/other/athletes-voices/dina-parise/

I am no stranger to the travel game. As you may remember, I traveled for many years a former skater for the Ice Capades. As of late our Dina Parise Racing team has been traveling buttoning up things regarding the new Cadillac CTSV Pro Mod we are debuting shortly. The team travels extensively on a whole.

I am all for meeting new people and living a bit of a ‘nomadic’ lifestyle. What I tend to not be a fan of is the fact that some no longer have manners. In this day of new technology and first class accommodations, one would think people would not act as if they were reared in a cave. Look, I am not all ‘stuffed shirt’ but to be in a restaurant in a hotel and watch a young man (old enough to know better) try to get served wearing no shoes (but had a hat on) just makes me shake my head. I have lived in hotels for an extended period of time, but I never acted as if the world was my bedroom and the restaurant was my Mom’s kitchen. Next thing you know, he will expect to be ‘tucked in’…. Kind of takes the ‘mint on the pillow’ idea to new heights, huh?

I know the root of the problem here though. We are hot on the heels of the debut of the Cadillac CTSV Pro Mod built by Matheis Race Cars Inc . and this girl certainly has the need for speed! Who wouldn’t want to tear down the Drag Strip in a Cadillac? A beautiful, classy Cadillac CTSV with 3,000 HP. Nope, I can’t find any issues with that! At this point, it’s nose to the grindstone! This DPR team is hard at work getting ready for the debut of this beautiful machine!

During this journey of the Cadillac build, I am finding more and more the need for being myself and not paying attention to what happens around me. Oddly, it has become a bit of a cathartic process. If you pay too much attention to what is being said (good or bad), you will never improve. I’m a believer in the fact that we are constantly evolving and learning. I choose to learn from all the experiences I have in life, and keep the faith! My biggest lessons usually come from ignorance. Ah, yes! It comes in all forms, yet ignorance can be quite educational! I take everything for what it’s worth! This quote from Dan Millman says it all for me! “Faith is the courage to live your life as if everything that happens does so for your highest good and learning. Like it or not.”

On a side note, here are some other projects I have been involved with! I had a great time recently, filming commercial spots for Hamilton Honda in New Jersey. Mike Saporito, is Co-Owner of Hamilton Honda along with New York Giants legends Jessie Armstead and Antonio Pierce. The trio also owns Englewood Cliffs Cadillac as well. When the spot airs, I will post for everyone to see! It’s for sure not what you would expect! Also, we attended a ‘Red Carpet’ event for the upcoming TV series ‘The Familia’. I am honored to be a part of this project! Not only will I have a part in this series, we will be utilizing the Cadillac CTSV Pro Mod as well! What a great opportunity for this DPR team as well as our Marketing Partners!

So, stay tuned! You know there is so much more to come! I will try to keep it interesting!

People always ask how our DPR team can get out there to do what we do. Our Marketing Partners are the key to DPR’s success! This team works hard to keep our Advertisers happy! TOG on the Move

Well, the boss has been keeping me very busy. I put 24K miles on my truck in three months and it doesn’t look like she is done with me just yet.  Growing up I watched so many race car drivers move up in the ranks. I knew that I always wanted to be a race car driver but my father didn’t see it that way, not sure what way he saw it but it wasn’t racing. But anyway, I watched all these famous drivers and not only wanted to meet them, but I wanted to be one.

Fast forward a couple years because I’m not that old yet, we got to hang out with my idols. I was like a kid in the candy store. Over the past couple of years I got to meet some amazing people. Don Gartlits, Billy Lynch, Bernie Schacker ,Tony Pedregon, Cruz Pedregon, Clay Millican, Frank Manzo and many others. These are racers that believed in themselves through thick and thin. I love getting to hang with them.

Now how cool is this, we are at Etown for the SuperNationals and we are talking to Bunny Burkett. Seriously, Here is Bunny… that has done it all and she is hobnobbing with me and the boss.  I still pinch myself thinking it is all a dream. I just hope that all of us racers can be as influential to the younger generation as drivers before us were. Who is the Next Bunny, Billy L, ‘Big Daddy and so many others. Those are some big shoes to fill.

I know you all are waiting on the Cadillac CTSV Pro Mod. It is almost done and will be out shortly. Rob and his team at Matheis Race Cars has been very busy working on it. They are perfectionists and I can’t wait to drive it. Oh did I say me. You never know what will happen in DPR camp. Matheis is doing an amazing job on this car with some real ‘trick’ stuff. When you have the 8th dwarf for a driver that weighs less then a watermelon it presents some challenges. But this car is going to be awesome, so awesome, I might have to get one for myself soon. Ugh, I hope the boss doesn’t read this.

Things are moving ahead in many ways but I just can’t say too much. What I can tell you all is that driving across the country is not fun. But it is very quiet in my truck. Just kidding. We have a ton of work to do in a short period of time. Since I do the schedule,( yes I do something besides drive )Oh maybe I don’t do the schedule, Now I’m in trouble…. Anyway we have testing on two cars to do and a lot of new parts and pieces to iron out. My crew chief won’t see home for a while.

One thing that I ‘stress’ (besides  my wife LOL!)  is  race track is safety. You can never be too safe in a race car or at the track in general. When we raced a 9 sec car, we over did the safety. Was it over kill, yes but I knew Dina was safe. I help guys who race 12 sec and 8 sec cars and I always hear ,”Belts are too tight”. Well, I rather be too tight then flop around in the car like a fish. When I went to the race track with Carl Spering, the man tighten my belts so hard it dislocated my shoulder. Ya it was a little too tight but his point I will never forget. You want to go rounds you need to be here for the next round. Safety is not for anyone but ourselves. Yes, its uncomfortable, hot, you feel like you cant breathe but it is there to keep us safe. Once the car is stopped then start taking your belts off and helmet. How do you know if the guy next to you doesn’t have brakes or your parachutes don’t get tied up to the fence. You just never know. We do drills with all of our gear on to make sure we can get out of the car quickly. Try this fully suited in the car with a friend. Blind fold yourself, seat belts locked and you have to get out of the car on the passenger side. Have your friend time you. Check the time and see if fire would burn you. Safety is key. Drag racing isn’t an X-Box game. If your mind is off that day go become a fan. Live to race another day.

The boss only gave me 1 hour to write this and I am way over my time limit. We are hitting the road again so always look for some pictures of our road show.

On the Road Again……

Andrew~
